Highs and Lows...

It's been another one of those weeks... I keep feeling like everything is coming at me at once and the to do list keeps getting longer and longer!
It always seems that the best ideas hit me when the guys are around or I finally get a picture of a scene in my head when I'm unable to concentrate enough to write...
Hubby, bless him, did something for me this week. Not once, but twice. He left Wednesday to run errands and stayed away from the house for a few hours so I could get a little writing out of the way... Yesterday, he did the same thing and I'm so glad he did.
I managed to get more added to that GEM of an idea tossed at me by my beloved mentor, Sandra (Durham, author of the Keyholder's Castle Series) and it's slowly coming together, bit by bit. Some of the parts are VERY hard to write... Not because dialogue is my Achilles' Heel (or is that "hell"??) when it comes to writing, but because of the content. The scenes that are in this part are pretty intense, and sometimes heartbreaking, so it is taking a lot out of me emotionally by times to get it all down.
I was in the middle of one of the more intense and emotionally rough scenes when Hubby got home yesterday and was hoping to finish it but I wasn't able to between Son getting home from school and the noise that the guys can make some days... And yesterday was one of those days when they were in the mood to make a LOT of noise and move around the house (read: by the computer area!) so there went me getting the rest of the scene finished.
I was going to wrap it up last night after they crashed but the brain was mush and I knew if I tried to work on things at that time of the night, I would mess up and wind up doing a rewrite on the latter part of that scene. *SIGH*
This coming week, I'm hoping to get two days in so hopefully I can get that scene wrapped up, get on to the next one and possibly even get up to the 2/3 or 3/4 of the way finished writing up this area. I'm getting closer and closer to finishing it, and would like to get it DONE so it's not bugging me while I'm trying to work on the main manuscript file itself.
Yes, the part I'm working on happens pretty late in the story and once it's done and polished up a bit, it will be set aside to perk while I work on the main manuscript and other spots that will be spliced in at a later date. I am getting ideas for other parts but they are not bugging me as much as this one is so they're on the back burner until things are wrapped up with this part.
I also had to do some research because I kept getting things to do with "something" messed up... Thankfully I found exactly what I was looking for online and with a couple of modifications, it works perfectly. I also had to make a couple of necessary changes in NR to line up with it, but it wasn't much, just changing a word or two here and there.
On that note, things are either high or low with working on this one at the moment... It's either a really good day or a really bad day for it, hence the title of this entry.
Maybe with a little luck, I'll have this story done by my deadline of the end of next year? I'd like to think so! LOL

Filling The Gaps, Untitled 8 Style...

Today wasn't a scheduled writing day but I did manage to get a couple of things done...
There are gaps in the gem idea that my mentor had shot at me a couple of weeks ago and while my husband was running errands, I decided it was time to start filling them in.
Three out of the four gaps now have their bases/foundations laid and it's all looking good so far. They need to be refined and edited a little more, and maybe have a little more added to them but at least it's there. The reader will see more and more of the leading lady's spunk come out in these parts and how she overcomes some things that come out from her past.
That's all I'm saying on it. If I say more on it, I'll give away what leads to the climax of the story and I do not want to do that!
By the looks of things, the weather may not cooperate with us this week... We're getting snow tomorrow night and Thursday night, meaning school may be canceled on both of the writing days I was supposed to have this week. That's why I was working on things today, so I wouldn't be chomping on the monitor so much if school does wind up being canceled on at least one of those days. *SIGH*
I don't know about the rest of you out there but I am SO SICK of winter... Bring on spring and warmer weather please!
Have a great week everyone!

Late Nights and Tonnes of Coffee--Take Two!

March break continues and if anyone heard any gnawing in the distance, it was probably me.
It drives me nuts how I always think of things for my stories when my son is home and boy, the ideas were REALLY flowing this week since March break started...
The gem of an idea that my beloved mentor gave me is still in my head and although there are some gaps that need to be filled in, it's coming along slowly but surely. I'm getting reactions from one side done, etc and it's looking good so far... Good enough for me to consider worthy of a first draft that is.
Last night I decided to stay up late and dive into the writing, to ease the urge a bit so I wouldn't drive myself and everyone else completely crazy with wanting to get on with it. Thankfully my husband isn't working today so I was able to really let myself go writing wise after the guys went to bed.
I had a partial scene in my brain and that was written up right away. It's an "over 18" scene so I had to wait until there was NO chance of my son seeing it before I wrote it up. It's only the basics, a "bare bones" blurb at the moment but at least the base of it is down and in a password protected file.
Yeah, I'm starting to put passwords on my documents now, notably the "adult" stuff. Son has figured out how to get into Word and start opening things! *SIGH* At least I know how to do passwords, etc and I have used them in the past, with Untitled 6 (dead manuscript, in the waste file for such things) and others. I'm going to start using them on ALL files because knowing him, he'll get into the manuscripts, etc and REALLY make a mess of things, thinking he's writing... *rolling eyes*
Anyway, back to the actual writing...
I got that short bit written up after thinking about it for a while and swearing a blue streak... I'm not sure exactly where it will go or how to lead into it yet but I'm sure it'll be coming up in the main manuscript file in a bit... Then I decided to poke around the rest of the files I have written up for this manuscript.
The main manuscript continuation wasn't working, so I went back to the idea my mentor shot at me last week and an idea to fill in one of the many gaps in that part hit me... So I plugged away at that for a couple of hours. It's rough, but good and with some polishing, it will work.
I did start to continue on where I left off at the end of it (it's a big part and will probably cover a few chapters near the end of the book if I ever finish it!) but by the time I got there, it was after 3 a.m. and I was starting to get foggy so I went back for a reread/edit. I finally crashed at 3:30 a.m., tired but happy and still coming down from the writing high.
I've also been thinking about the working title for this story... After what Sandra (my mentor) suggested to me last week, "WL" isn't right for it any more... The way things are going with the ideas, the actual storyline itself and the characters, I've come to a decision and changed the working title... "FP" it is now known as. It suits things a LOT better and gives a tiny hint to those who will read NR exactly what this one is about. It is NR's sequel after all, so I had to have a great title for it. I just hope it turns out even half as good as its predecessor!
The ideas are still flowing, thankfully, and I'm trying to keep up with getting them down most of the time! Bless my mentor, she is an awesome person to brainstorm with and I really appreciate the help! It's good to have someone who knows the characters almost as well as you do in a case like this! LOL
I'll update as things progress, as always. I have two shorter writing days next week and I would like to fill in some of the gaps I have in that one part if I can do it!
Have a wonderful Thursday everyone!

Another writing day is done and I'm exhausted mentally...
It's like a light switch suddenly turned on this week... I've been making progress in Untitled 8 and it's better than I had dreamed!
I wrapped up NR's final edit and moved it into "FINAL DRAFT MODE" as of Wednesday afternoon and am now getting the packages together to send out to publishers.
That's all I'm saying about NR from now on unless it's in passing.
Anyway, like I was saying, it's like a light switch was suddenly turned on after I finished NR's final edit. I started looking at what I had so far for Untitled 8, its sequel, and BOOM, a few things started hitting me.
I had a couple of good ideas and bounced them off of my beloved Mentor... Then she and I started brainstorming ideas for my new manuscript. Since she has read NR, she knows some of the characters almost as well as I do and one thing led to another and the next thing I knew, I had fifteen NEW ideas added to the Ideas file, just in two days!
Well, this morning when I got online, there was a PM waiting for me in Sanctuary and Mentor dropped another idea on my head...
I thought about it for a few minutes and could actually "see and hear" a good part of it! When that happens, it's GOLD so I started jotting down ideas for the scene, one by one and BOOM, things were hitting me faster than I could write them down! I did a little tweaking with her original idea and it is going to be in the story!
It happens closer to the end of the book, which is quite a ways ahead of where I am in the main manuscript file so I started a new file and got down to work the instant my husband left for his job.
Six hours and eight pages later, I have the bulk of the scene I had pictured in my head this morning written up... Now there are some gaps where I have to fill in a few things (not saying what!) but almost everything I saw in my head is down in Word and although it's very rough, it looks good so far.
My eyes are killing me but I want to keep going...
I'm taking a break now, while the guys are up. They're making a lot of noise and each time I hear Son screech it breaks the concentration. I may try working on it later, after they go to bed. I still have a few pictures in my mind and I can still hear some of the dialogue.
I'm tickled with what I wrote today... Not just the amount of pages, but how well it turned out even in the roughest draft. It's close to my insanely high standards for a first draft so that's good in my mind!
I won't have much time to write until after the 18th... Next week is March break and that means NO full days alone... Not happy but with a little luck, maybe I'll get a couple of pages done here and there... I hope so at least!
By the way my mentor released Book 2 in the Keyholder's Castle series on March 4, 2013, this past Monday... It's on Amazon and you can get "Damnation and Trial" HERE! I haven't had the chance to read it yet because I've been buried in my own work... Maybe over March break!
Have a great weekend everyone!
